BankFirst Highlights Commitment to Mississippi Children through Donation to Canopy Children’s Solutions

Columbus, MISS.—Executives from BankFirst Financial Services, a Columbus-based financial institution with branches in Mississippi and Alabama, is to present Canopy Children’s Solutions with a check for $25,000 to support statewide solutions for children’s mental health and social services. This donation honors their corporate philosophy of passionately supporting individuals and communities to see them grow and prosper. The check presentation will take place on November 12, at 2 p.m. at BankFirst’s main office located at 900 Main Street in Columbus.

“For more than a century, both BankFirst and Canopy Children’s Solutions have believed all families in our communities should thrive—especially those with extraordinary challenges,” said BankFirst President and CEO Moak Griffin. “We’re inspired and moved by the services Canopy provides families in our communities, and we hope BankFirst’s donation will help expand these services to even more families in need.”

Canopy serves more than 5,000 children throughout the state each year, covering all 82 Mississippi counties. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates approximately 1 in 5 children experiences a serious mental health challenge, including depression, anxiety, mood disorders, suicidal thoughts or feelings, trauma disorders and behavior challenges. Of those affected, nearly 80 percent, approximately 100,000 children in Mississippi alone, never receive proper treatment. BankFirst is taking part in a state-wide financial initiative to help change that.

The public is invited to attend the check presentation.

“In our more than 100 year history, we have served thousands of children and families,” said Canopy CEO John Damon, Ph.D. “Thanks to transformational partnerships with key leaders like those at BankFirst, we can see our ‘canopy’ grow so more kids will have access to resources necessary to achieving their full potential. Right now, we are reaching kids in all corners of the state, but there are still many more out there who need help. We are honored to have BankFirst join our mission to help children thrive and are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside one another.”
