Canopy is Recognized as a Certified Great Place to Work

Canopy Children’s Solutions (Canopy), Mississippi’s most comprehensive nonprofit provider of children’s behavioral health, education and social service solutions, earns the designation of a Certified Great Place to Work™. Certification is a significant achievement as it is only held by three other organizations in the state.

“When I became CEO, I committed myself and challenged our leadership to elevate Canopy to the best it could be for our staff and for the children and families we serve,” said Canopy CEO John D. Damon, Ph.D. “That meant committing to a smart and healthy work culture, which includes minimal politics, low confusion, high morale, low turnover and high productivity. This is one step of many toward creating an inclusive workplace that helps children heal.  We remain in a constant state of continuous improvement. I am so proud of the progress we have made and this designation as a certified Great Place To WorkTM exemplifies the work we have done and is a benchmark for the incredible work for children we are continuing into our next century of service to Mississippi.

Using validated employee feedback gathered with Great Place to Work’s rigorous, data-driven  methodology, certification confirms seven out of 10 employees have a consistently positive experience working at a certified organization. Great Place to Work is the global authority on workplace culture, employee experience and the leadership behaviors proven to deliver market-leading revenue and increased innovation.

“Canopy has been working to receive a recognition as a Great Place to Work for many years. It is our desire to create a workplace that values the unique giftedness of each team member and employ their talents in many ways that create positive outcomes for the children and families we have the privilege to serve. Diversity is a fact and creating an inclusive workplace is a choice Canopy chooses to embrace,” said Canopy Chief Engagement and Diversity Officer Taheti Watson. “Understanding the narrative of what it means to sustain an inclusive, belonging and equitable work environment is not easy and requires bold action from every employee. It’s essential to develop a safe psychological and trusting environment where employees feel free to give honest and confidential feedback.  We are proud of our leadership and employees’ dedication to putting the work in to become one of Mississippi’s great places to work.”

Canopy serves more than 5,000 children each year. Employing nearly 500 mental and behavioral health experts, educators and social service professionals throughout the state, Canopy is committed to driving innovation and offering effective and accessible solutions for children and families. This is accomplished through a workforce that is devoted to helping every child become a success story.

“Canopy is an extraordinary place that has served the greatest needs of children and families since 1912,” said Dorian Turner, board president for Canopy. “This designation as a Great Place To Work™ highlights the organization’s commitment to its employees in creating a work culture that promotes their own development and well-being, which in turn is poured into the children served through Canopy’s mission.”

“We congratulate Canopy Children’s Solutions on their Certification,” said Sarah Lewis-Kulin, Vice President of Best Workplace List Research at Great Place to Work. “Organizations that earn their employees’ trust create great workplace cultures that deliver outstanding business results.”
