New Leadership joins Canopy Children’s Solutions

Canopy Children’s Solutions (Canopy) welcomes new leadership to its Administrative team with additions to the human resources and finance departments.

Donna Marshall

Donna Marshall, MS, PHR, SHRM-CP, was named the new director to the Human Resources team. As the Director of HR, Marshall is responsible for developing and structuring HR processes that are proactive, responsive, and effective in addressing the needs of employees. Her role includes overseeing the areas of recruitment and workforce planning, talent acquisition and development, employee relations, benefits, and compliance initiatives that support the organization’s mission.

“Canopy believes in building and maintaining a smart and healthy culture that supports and grows its workforce,” said Taheti Watson, Chief Engagement & Diversity Officer. “We are excited to have Donna join us and provide her insight to identifying and growing individuals who thrive in Canopy’s mission.”

Marshall brings with her 20 years of experience in Human Resources.  She was named Mississippi’s HR Professional of the Year in 2012 by the Mississippi State Council of SHRM. She is also a member of the Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM) and Capital Area Human Resources (CAHRA). Marshall served on the CAHRA Board in the roles of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Earning a master’s degree in Human Resources Training & Development from Amberton University, Marshall also has a bachelor’s degree in Education from Mississippi State University. She received her accreditation as a Certified Professional in Human Resources in 2000 and a SHRM Certified Professional in 2015.

Originally from Greenwood, Marshall currently resides with her husband Jeff and two children in Madison, MS.  Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her family and watching her children play soccer and baseball. She also volunteers with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Mississippi.

Allison Rooker

Allison Rooker, CPA, is Canopy’s new Director of Financial Planning and Analytics. In this role, Rooker is responsible for monitoring the business activities and operations of the organization. This includes preparing and examining budget estimates, performing advanced accounting functions in the management of Canopy’s business affairs, providing support to leadership and program supervisors with financial planning, forecasting and budget management.

“At Canopy, we are very conscious of our stewardship responsibility and our promise to deliver mission-driven solutions so that all Mississippi children can thrive and succeed,” said Angie Sumrall, Canopy Chief Financial Officer. “Allison will play an integral role in making sure we stay financially healthy so we can continue the services we have provided to Mississippi children and families for more than 100 years and look toward continued growth in the future. We are excited to have her and the expertise she brings to our team.”

As a licensed Certified Public Accounting (CPA), her career led her to the West Coast but ultimately she returned to her home state of Mississippi where she has spent the past 12 years. Rooker joined the Canopy team following more than a decade of service in not-for-profit private higher education. Rooker is also active in volunteerism as a member of the Junior League of Jackson. She currently serves as the Finance Co-Chair of Touch-A-Truck community development project for 2021.

A native of Jackson and alumna of the University of Southern Mississippi, Rooker is a resident of Brandon where she lives with her husband Derek and their two children. They are active in their children’s various sports activities and their local church.
