Canopy Children’s Solutions’ Statement Regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread across the world and is now active in Mississippi, Canopy Children’s Solutions continues to monitor the latest information that is available from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), WHO and the Mississippi State Department of Health for guidance.

Our employees’ and clients’ health and safety remain our top priorities. As a preventative measure, we wanted to share the following recommendations with our families:

  • Stay home when you are sick. You will help prevent others from catching your illness. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Wash hands frequently and for 20 seconds. Washing hands often under clean, running water can help prevent the spread of germs. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60-95% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes. Use a tissue to cover coughs and sneezes, then dispose of the tissue. When a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your elbow.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces or objects. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when someone is ill.

Parents and teachers are faced with the challenge of discussing the evolving coronavirus outbreak with young children. Although these may be difficult conversations, they are also important. There are no “right” or “wrong” ways to talk with children about such public health emergencies. Below are resources to help parents and caregiver navigate questions and conversations with children regarding the coronavirus outbreak:

Additional resources available regarding coronavirus:
World Health Organization (WHO)
Mississippi Department of Health (MSDH)
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

As additional information becomes available, we will adjust our solutions in response.
