Canopy Children’s Solutions (Canopy) in conjunction with the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the state’s first Center of Excellence in children’s behavioral health located in Jackson. The ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, December 5, at the Canopy Center of Excellence located at 1513 Lakeland Drive in Jackson.
A Center of Excellence according to National Council on Behavioral Health focuses on “supporting resiliency, recovery, excellent outcomes and high patient satisfaction.”
“Our goal is to help every child reach their full potential by receiving the right care, when they need it, where they need it, for how long they need it. This clinic is one of many steps in that direction,” said John D. Damon, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer for Canopy. “We will achieve this vision through our commitment to world-class customer service, demonstrated outcomes, easy access to quality care, and delivering the high value of services our kids and families deserve.”
The Center encompasses Canopy Behavioral Health Solutions which includes an outpatient therapy clinic and psychiatric care as well as Canopy Autism Solutions which includes an Early Intervention Autism Clinic. Children and youth can receive Applied Behavior Analysis therapy, outpatient therapy, psychiatric care, medication management, and telehealth solutions within the one location with the goal of adding additional services in the near future. This new model creates quicker access to care for Canopy clients and lessens the burden on families needing the services of multiple providers.
“Families with children on the autism spectrum, for example, typically don’t just attend Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, but also speech therapy, occupational therapy and getting to all those places every week can be very challenging for a family,” said Shea Hutchins, Canopy Chief Solutions Officer. “We have a plan with the new Center of Excellence that is going to ease this burden and create greater access to effective solutions for kids on the autism spectrum as well as those with mental and behavioral health challenges.”
The Canopy Center of Excellence is located at 1513 Lakeland Drive. Canopy Behavioral Health Solutions serves children ages five to 20 and the early intervention autism clinic serves children as young as 18 months. The Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended hours on Tuesday evenings.
