We Believe In The
Science of Hope
While at CARES Center, your child will learn about HOPE and how to use the following strategies to help them thrive. Below is an overview of HOPE Science.
WHAT IS HOPE?
Hope is the belief that your future can be brighter than your past and that you have the power to make it so. Hope is about goals, pathways and willpower. A goal without a pathway is just a wish. It’s important to set SMART goals, and to be flexible and resilient for barriers that may get in the way of reaching your goal.
Setting SMART goals can help set you up for success. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time bound. Each goal should include all five parts to help make a clear plan. The more specific your goal is, the more likely you are to be successful.
- A goal is something that excites you.
- You want to reach your goal enough to work on it.
- Reaching your goal is the endpoint to your journey.
- Large goals can be broken into smaller goals.
Pathways are the roadmap to success. They are a series of steps to obtain your goal, and sometimes we need multiple pathways to reach our goals.
- Pathways are a series of steps you identify and take to obtain your goal.
- It is important to understand and plan for barriers that may come up on your pathway.
Willpower is about sustaining the mental energy it takes to meet your goals. Making the journey toward a new goal often requires us to change our behavior.
- Willpower is the mental energy you give your goal.
- Your willpower is limited each day.
- Encouragement from others can help fuel your willpower.
