Canopy Children’s Solutions Autism Solutions
The rate of new diagnoses for autism is growing at an alarming rate. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that about 1 in 59 children are identified with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. This is a 15 percent increase over prevalence rates of 2010 and 2012. In total, more than 11,000 Mississippi children are affected. These disorders are reported to occur in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups and are almost five times more common among boys than among girls. Canopy Children’s Solutions has taken a leading role by serving the growing needs of children on the autism spectrum.
Canopy assists children on the autism spectrum through our early intervention solutions and day school programs.
Canopy’s Early Intervention Autism Clinics in Hattiesburg and Jackson provide early intervention services utilizing individualized Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy and ongoing assessments for children younger than 8 years old on the autism spectrum. The clinics use the Promoting the Emergence of Advanced Knowledge language training system, better known as PEAK, which helps to identify a child’s understanding of how things relate to one another based on learned experiences. Along with working with children through ABA behavioral processes, staff also work with families to teach them how to reinforce the ABA processes outside of the clinical setting. Canopy accepts insurance, Medicaid and private payment for early intervention services.
CARES Schools offer specialized classrooms and consultations for children on the Autism Spectrum. Our schools are located in Hattiesburg and Jackson that are accredited by the Mississippi Department of Education. The work completed at the CARES School is fully accredited and transferable to Mississippi public schools.
