Meet the Principal

Robin Davis, Ph.D
Principal, CARES School Hattiesburg

Robin Davis serves as the principal of Canopy Children’s Solutions’ CARES School Hattiesburg. In her role, she works with area school districts to identify and assist students whose challenges are greater than what the school district is able to provide to the student and work extensively to advocate and offer educational solutions for students on the autism spectrum in the Pine Belt area. As students progress through the CARES School program, she works to inform district leaders of each child’s progress with their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) milestones and helps to develop, with the assistance of CARES School staff, plans for students to return to general education schools and classrooms. She works alongside other CARES School staff, teachers and therapists to develop educational and behavioral programming, address challenges, and ensure the children of the school are receiving care and educational assistance that matches the unique needs of each individual student.

She has nearly two decades of experience working with special needs children. After spending time in the Lawrence County Public Schools system, Davis began working as a math consultant in a special-purpose school dedicated to children with emotional disabilities. She soon took on a full-time teaching role at the school where she served for 10 years. In 2010, she joined the CARES School Hattiesburg. In her time at CARES School, Davis has served as the lead teacher, individualized education plan (IEP) coordinator and interim principal. Robin was named principal of the CARES School in May 2019.

Robin believes you never stop learning. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) in mathematics. She began work on her master’s degree in mathematics at USM after leaving the public school system; however, after discovering her passion for children with emotional disabilities and special needs, she changed course to earn a master’s in Special Education – Emotional Disability. She also began working towards her Ph.D., but took several years off to focus on her family. In May 2018, Robin completed her doctoral degree in Educational Administration.

Robin is a native of Petal but now resides in Jefferson Davis County. She and her late husband, Ed, have two adult children and three beautiful grandchildren. Robin’s favorite thing to do is work in her yard sprucing up flowerbeds. During warmer months, you can find her beside the nearest bodies of water be it a pool, lake or ocean. She enjoys spending her spare time with friends and family.
